Meet Our Senior Pastor
Bishop Fred J.Pellum
As a longtime member of The Grand Old Church Of God In Christ (1962-Present), Bishop Pellum has unwaveringly and tenaciously supported the vision by promoting the work of the Lord. In the world where loyalty and legacy are minimized, without reservation, he has given time, talents, resources, and spiritual depth to ensure the success of the church. He has served as an Administrative Assistant in Western Georgia (Bishop John Franklin Thomas), Southern Georgia 2nd Bishop John W. Leggett, Bishop Jack Stephens, and Bishop C.J. Hix; along with serving as Chairman over the Superintendent Board. Prior to serving in Southern Georgia 2nd, Bishop Pellum moved from Idlewild, Michigan where he was the Assistant Pastor under his father, the Late Superintendent John C. Pellum from 1962-1974 at Mt. Olive Church Of God In Christ. He was ordained in 1965 by the Late Bishop C.J. Johnson. Having been a celebrated Pastor for more than fifty- five years, he currently pastors Refreshing COGIC, Decatur, GA and Mt. Olive COGIC, Idlewild, MI.
He received a Doctorate of Divinity in Theological Studies, all while ardently supporting the International Department of Missions of the Church Of God In Christ, having contributed generously to the Foreign mission churches most notably in India and South Africa; along with being one of the dedicated saints that contributed to the Leila Mason Home in Memphis, TN. His philanthropic efforts have also extended into the educational arena as he promotes the work and efforts of the Interdenominational Theological Center in Georgia and Saints Junior College in Lexington, MS where two of his children attended. Bishop Pellum is the husband to Geraldine Pellum of 66 years, father of 3 children (Elder David Pellum, Fred Pellum and District Missionary Janice Pellum-Gardner).
Superintendent Dr. David E. Jackson II brings to Refreshing Church of God In Christ a rare convergence of scholarly depth, pastoral authority, and real-world leadership forged across some of life's most demanding arenas.
A credentialed Elder in the Church of God in Christ, Dr. Jackson has served at every level of the church — from youth ministry and senior pastorate to jurisdictional leadership — while simultaneously serving as a sworn law enforcement officer for nearly five years. That uncommon dual calling, carrying both a pulpit and a badge, shaped the kind of leader he is today: spiritually grounded, operationally disciplined, and relationally present.
Dr. Jackson currently serves as Assistant Pastor of Refreshing Church of God In Christ in Decatur, Georgia, under the leadership of Bishop Fred J. Pellum, and as Superintendent of the Refreshing District within the Western Georgia Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ.
His academic credentials are extensive. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University, a Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary of New York, and a Doctor of Ministry from New York Theological Seminary. He is currently completing a Doctor of Philosophy in Organizational Leadership at Southeastern University. He serves as an Adjunct Professor of Organizational Leadership at Morris Brown College and is a member of the prestigious Morehouse College Board of Preachers.
Dr. Jackson is a two-time recipient of the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award — recognized under both President Barack Obama and President Joseph Biden — for his sustained commitment
to community service. He is the founder of The Watchman Project, a faith-based initiative dedicated to church security and clergy-led gun violence reduction in the Atlanta community, and the author of
The Commanders Invitation.
